One of the original fat bike venues in Northern Michigan is looking like its beautiful old self this week! After a December with only man-made snow and almost a week of temperatures over freezing, last night's blizzard blanketed the resort with over 8 inches, and there's more on the way!
Einstein Racing-Short's Brewing had riders on the trails today and the grooming efforts are already dialing in the terrain and route for January 23's Fat Chance! at Crystal Mountain. In the course of 90 minutes, the trail was visibly firming up, with riders holding a steady and relatively easy average speed of 12 miles per hour over the winding, rolling hills and golf greens of the Pineapple Loop.
There's snow in the forecast much of the week ahead, and we're expecting a manicured course at the end of the month. Some quick notes ahead of race day as well:
- Registration and packet pick-up will return to Kinlochen, home of the Kinlochen shop and Thistle Pub. Registration will be open 10-11:45 on race day, with day-of an addition $10.
- Post race festivities will kick-off immediately following the race's finish, with all the fun happenin' at Hudson Bay Conference Center, located in the Crystal Center at the north end of the Crystal Village.
- We'll have a Chili Bar, Short's Brewing Co., and the world's best hand-made medals waiting for you after the race in Hudson Bay! The after-after party is in the Vista Lounge at 4pm!
- Please park in the main parking lot located on the north end of the Village if the parking lot near Thistle is full. This will also give you quick access to the awards party!
Here's a handy map of the Village. Note Thistle/Kinochen to the south, where the start/finish is also located.
