We're excited to announce the 2017 calendar for Short's Brewing Fat Bike Series! We've been putting on fat bike races since 2012, and it's been incredible to see the sport we love grow from 20 people to over 100 in just a few short years.
2017 starts where it really should, and the foot of beautiful Crystal Mountain Resort and Spa. Fat Chance! is back once again, and there just is no place like Crystal for a fat bike race. Under the chair lifts and along the beautiful Betsie River Valley, the race is one for the complete rider, capable of bike handling, some climbing, and endurance over 90 minutes of riding. We'll offer a 45 minute Short's Race for all of 2017, and this is a perfect event to see what fat biking is all about.
The second race of the Series will be the Vasa Fat Bike Race on February 11 at Timber Ridge. Celebrate Winter Sports in all their glory, with some of the best skiers in the Midwest battling it out in the morning, with the fat bike racing capping off the day. Twisting through the Winter Sports Singletrack, Riley's Loop and the 25km, last year's race was a thriller, and 2017 will almost certainly even more hotly contested.
The Vineyard Race is third up and just a week after the Vasa on February 18. This double-header of sorts brings the Series title picture into focus, with only a single race remaining afterwards. Forty-Five North Vineyards is a beautiful setting, and the 3.2 mile World Cup-style course is almost all visible from the cozy confines of the tasting room. Racers get a view, too, from the top of a 200 foot climb each lap, rewarded by the sprawling landscape of Lake Leelanau below and the rush of a flying descent back to the start/finish.
The grand finale is the biggest party. Beard of Zeus is back for March 4, with 1,000 spectators on hand at Suds'n'Snow to witness the circuit-style race that will ultimately decide the Series title.
2017 Race Categories

Series points will again be tallied only for the Long races. The Short's race is designed for beginners just getting into fat biking and we encourage riders to challenge themselves in the longer races when they feel comfortable.
